Thalassophile

I think you’re beautiful
even when the sun isn’t on your side,
and your waves don’t glisten with a hint of sunshine.
I’d revel in the pure color of you,
No matter the sand you carry,
Or the texture of your skin.
You are ultimately water within.
Though the sun comes to see you at dusk
and falls behind you,
taking refuge in the expanse of you,
You still gravitate toward me.
The evening sky may fade to darkness
But you sea, you’re a force to be reckoned with.
and I’m more than willing to get my feet wet.

The Nightmare of Us

We were a fairytale doomed with an unhappy ending.
You were prince Harming and I was a queen with no crown.
We were more the enemy than the twosome that lives happily ever after.
We were the fairytale that looked wrong,
But felt right.
The book of us collected dust
for no one would admit
love was no fairytale.
Love looked like rusty, broken crowns,
dusty hearts, more frowns.
A fairytale set in a metropolitan town,
a love that couldn’t look up without falling down.
We were no fairytale indeed.
No fancy ballrooms, no royal steed,
no fairy Godmother to look after our needs.
No. We changed the game.
We showed the world that ‘fairytale’ was just a name.
We created stories of dungeons and dragons,
and princes with no fame.
Now little kids needn’t be fooled into thinking
love’s about waiting for a kiss
or hoping for the perfect man.
Love, now, is imperfect, and difficult
and often a nightmare.
But it does make better stories
than the ones we previously knew.
I hope someday, some little one,
is inspired by the nightmare of me and you.

Wrong.

If Love and Timing were the best of friends
you'd still be my miracle when the day ends
we would never have to wait for love
or give up on it's magic
we would never have to end up
with an aching heart and a love-story just as tragic
You and I could be the smell of spring after a cold winter spell
you could be the love story I'd alter into a fairy-tale to tell.
Well,
If Love and Timing were the best of friends
love stories wouldn't require amends
You would be mine, no matter the year, no matter the time
regardless of every person that stood in our way
and every obstacle-filled day
No matter if you were right for me
no matter all I left behind for you
no matter if I said the right words
though at the wrong time.
For even the wrong words deserve a chance at a rhyme
If Love and Timing were the best of mates
you and I wouldn't have to blame our fates
for holding us apart and teasing the heart
you and I could have been closer at the start
before we cursed destiny and powers above
before we gave up on ever falling in love
If Love and Timing could just get along
you and I could be where we belong.
You and I could stop being wrong.

Drunk

Oh, you're like the good kind
The strong kind, the kind that leaves a bitter taste on my tongue
But a sweetness in my soul
For it allows me to feel you, loud and bold
Your skin, your gaze, your life-giving embrace
You're the kind that leaves me in a daze
Just a sip of your lips, my addictive craze
And I'm drunk on a taste of divine love and lust
The kind that breaks my walls down and allows me to trust
That for once,
I'm not being unreasonable for going under the influence
For once, I'm dizzy at the mercy of your perfection
I'm feeling things 10 times their origin
And seeing things in triple a vision
And I swear I haven't drank at all today
Not a sip not a shot, just not.
But you're buzzing through my veins
And I hear my heart over the rains.
My sight is blurry but my focus is right
You're the only vision I care for in this stary night
My legs are wobbling,
incapable of walking straight
They just keep leading me down your street
Until I'm standing on your porch,
with nothing to do but wait.
I'm high on a soul, a soul that's beautiful
Amazing, addictive and kind
Minx extraordinaire, I can't get her off my mind
I'm drunk on the idea of us being more
I'm drunk on a soul I wish to know.

Fire

You are a wick, waiting to shine,
To be touched by a flame, to ignite
To burn souls and leave a mark
To be hope in someone's dark
To take someone's breath away
And to give someone reason to stay.
You are here and you will shine
You are even warmer than a cold night's glass of wine
You weaken knees and shake the earth
You are beautiful, for whatever it's worth
You bring life, love and mirth
You are no destruction, only a comforting hearth.
In your presence the hardest of souls will melt,
And in your embrace no negativity will be felt.
You are easy on the eyes and a cure for a cold heart.
You're the answer to many a prayer,
A solution, and for many a life, a vital part.
The fire in your veins burns every life you touch
You are powerful, and mean so much
You don't know the fire in you like I do,
You are danger and safety all wrapped in one.
You, my dear, are lava, light and warmth
My north star, my sun.
