The Task That She Is

He scratches and claws but she won't let him in
too afraid to let him under her skin
It scares her how he wants her
how he'll do anything to win
her heart, in all it's unworthiness,
it's fragile state within
But he won't give up,
she can see it in his eyes
this is no ordinary conquest,
and she's worth more than any prize
it's scares her more than it does surprise
that a man like him would want her so bad
men like him walk away more than stay
and she has learned that the hard way
But he's proved more than once
He's here for the long run.
A condition he has but one
that she crosses the finish line with him
She laughs as he stands there
having tried his best to creep in
to sneak his way, past the cracks in the wall
and ended up, crushing it, insecurities and all
And she walks into his embrace
in his arms she happily falls
he won her over fair and square
Like she wasn't a task at all.
