A Secret Escape

She's broken and hurting as she falls to her knees
this act of self loathing becoming a daily ritual
her elbows dig into the soft sheets of her bed
as she joins her hands and bows her head
Tears battle their way through closed eyes
and roll shamelessly down an already moist face
she can't remember the last time she fell to this position
She can't recall ever seeking His embrace
tonight is different as she chants out His name
needing a higher force, her emotions to tame
for a woman who gave up on the man who gave her,her second name
she feels like she's the one, for his death, to blame
a cool breeze dances along her skin
threatening to remind her of that night she lost him
but she can't let it take control of her again
she won't let it reach within
So she prays louder, needing for Him to hear
how she wishes to see him just one more time
her love, her dear, how she needs him near.
and for a moment, for just a tiny second
she thinks she feels his hand on her shoulder,
A warm touch, one she knows all too well,
She cherished it,and let it sink in,
she knew it wouldn't dwell.
and it disappeared as soon as it came
The feeling of him, the very same
she sank down to the ground as sleep overtook her body
and thanked Him for ignoring, from heaven, his soul's secret escape.
