Hopelessly Devoted

He's hopeless.
Hopelessly devoted.
Spoiled by her impressive ways and that torturous smile.
He's spent an entire week setting this emotional guard up,
raising his defenses around his heart
cause just like every time, he doesn't want to be pushed around by her mysterious ways,
her beauty, and her ability to capture him and play with his emotions with just a word or two
or even a gesture as tiny as slipping her hand through his
These little things break him. He's embarrassed about his lack of strength to despise her
To keep her at bay, or look out for himself.
He doesn't want to throw himself in completely, and give her the reigns to his heart again.
He's seen too well, the things she can do, the leverage she has over a devoted man
She's sexy, and sassy, and a whole lot of a tease
and his weaknesses range to anything from her smile, to her dainty, playful personality
She's dangerous for him, he knows it,
She'll probably kill him if she knew the power she had over him.
She doesn't realize how he tries everyday, to keep a check on his emotions
to hold up that shield that keeps him from falling
Falling in love, falling face first, falling hard
and to her feet, to be whatever she needs him to be.
He's a goner and he knows it.
A part of him wishes she knew, a part wishes otherwise.
And even while he waits for her arrival, after a month of hearing nothing from her,
he's determined to not let her get to him. He wants her to work hard to win his attention
But in the next moment, she's greeting him with a kiss on the cheek,
a hug and a smile so meek,
he's feeling that tug, that magnetic pull of the foolish side of his brain
and that scream from his heart saying "Oh no! not again!"
and she slips her delicate little hand into his strong one
and says "How have you been? I've missed you" in a voice so plain, admirable, exact opposite of disdain
And he knows in that second. He's lost his will,
while that shield around his heart took a back seat
rationality and emotional guards flew out the window
and he couldn't be anything but 'normal' with her
all over again.
