The One That Got Away

He was 11 when he dropped out of school.
She was 13 when she did the same.

He couldn't study. His brain was made for better things.

His heart was smarter than his mind would ever let him be. It's what kept him sane.

She grew up in a big house and a small family.
He grew up with the opposite.
Both never knew the luxuries of life. Both didn't want it either.

He lost his mother when he was too young to understand.

But his many brothers and sisters raised him to be a wonderful man.

She learned to be a woman who could only care..
And never raise her hand or her temper. No. she'd never dare.

He'd learned from an uncle and started a business of his own
She'd taken example from her mother, gentleness and kindness, in her, was sown.

They'd met on the shore one day when the world became too small
And a friend who was a mutual one, had called.

She saw in him, something she couldn't understand.
He saw in her, something that made him wanna be her man.

He was a charmer of sorts and wooed her lots,
But something wasn't right and they parted ways.

Many failed relationships and 10 years later
They met again, with hope this time it'll be better.

And with something that started of 10 years ago,
they created a love whos strength no one would ever know.

Traveling across 4 stations to see eachother every second day,
They'd learned to love, and loved to learn about eachother, and their ways.

Without any doubt this time, they tied the knot
and vowed to be eachothers, forever and a day.

With little children now, natures miracles,
They loved unconditionally and lived in simplicity.
But lifes never been easy for the two of them
And like the former years they lived, came problems, their happiness to condemn.

He gave her everything he could and she loved him the way she should.
But God made it a point to surprise them all the time.
And so he took him away from her, one day, for really, no crime.

She took it hard, a blow to her life, that took with it, all that she had
If there was one thing she lived for now, it was to keep her children glad.

For they were a part of them, something right that they had done,

In a life filled with trouble and darkness, they were her morning sun.

He may have died young, and left her to grow old alone
But soon enough she took courage and never let her spirit get worn.

A wife and a mother who has come along way
She falters and make mistakes, but gets up and tries not to go astray.

She's weak and scared and tempted to let go,
But she'll hide that away, trying hard to be stronger than before.

She's been through the worse, and it's probably just the start
But shes a winner, the strongest at heart.

He's watching over her from wherever he may be
And he's smiling at her, encouragingly.

Time and again, he appears in her dreams, both day and night,
That sweet handsome man, on the shores of a beach, in the evening sunlight.
