Flames to Dust

With him on her mind
And with him in her hand
She took a long slow drag
Thinking about this stupid day
And how he ran around her heart, playing tag
And as the fumes burned their way down
She felt the burn of him against her lips
Heavy and strong
And so very wrong
Yet something she'd been craving all along
And just like how his words pierced
The fumes caught onto her walls
And darkened the halls inside
They found their happy place,
a place within her to hide.
And hiding is all she ever does anymore
As he dances around her and burns her sore.
She breathes out and opens her eyes
and is blinded by the smoke before her
and the tears that brim and threaten to fall.
She never expected him to be the world on her shoulder.
But how she wishes one day he would just hold her,
and know her,
And as the evening grows colder,
she looks at the shortened life in her hand,
turning to ashes as she breathes her own life away,
falling to the ground and she has not a say.
He was to be the death of her
but now another has earned her kiss
he can go around blowing smoke
but it is always his love she will miss.
